Presenter: Mr. Jerall Toi, Senior Institutional Information Officer, Stellenbosch University
Time: 09h00 - 10h00

Personal Information Impact Assessments, or Data Protection Impact Assessments as they’re known abroad, may be a legislative or contractual requirement for your research. The Division for Information Governance recently launched a tool to help SU researchers identify if they need to conduct an assessment. In this session, Jerall Toi, SU’s Deputy Information Officer, will walk attendees through the new tool, explain the legislative background behind the tool, and discuss further benefits beyond simple compliance with privacy legislation and contractual data protection clauses. After this practical session, attendees should know when and how to use the preliminary impact assessment tool and where to go next if they require a full impact assessment.
