HOUR WITH
PROF JACQUES DU PLESSIS
Sien Afrikaans onder
The Library hosted another very successful
Research Commons Social Hour, with Prof Jacques du Plessis of the Law
Faculty as the guest speaker. He held an inspirational talk with the
topic The Roads of Research. Prof du Plessis highlighted in his
talk the steps he took towards a successful research career, the
obstacles he had to overcome, lessons learned along the way and about a
few mentors he valued over the years.
Prof Du Plessis is Extraordinary Professor
of Private Law and Head of the Department of Private Law at the
University of Stellenbosch. He holds B Comm, LLB and LLM degrees from
Stellenbosch University. He also studied at Aberdeen University, where
he obtained his PhD. His main fields of interest are contract,
unjustified enrichment, legal history and comparative law. He received
the National Research Foundation President's Award and was elected an
Alexander von Humboldt Fellow. His wealth of expererience and advice was
well received by the students attending the talk. There was also a
lively discussion afterwards.
The Research Commons Social Hours are an
initiative of the Library aimed to create and foster a community of
researchers and provide an opportunity where emerging researchers can
find inspiration, exchange ideas, support each other and socialise.
These events are very popular with
postgraduate students, as they feel easily isolated and have
the chance here to socialise with each other and exchange ideas. We are
looking forward to welcome other guest speakers, staff members and
postgraduate students at the Research Commons Social Hours planned
for 2015!

NAVORSINGSRUIMTE
SOSIALE UUR MET
PROF JACQUES DU PLESSIS
Die Biblioteek het 'n suksesvolle
Navorsingsruimte Sosiale Uur aangebied in Oktober met Prof Jacques du
Plessis van die Regsfakulteit as gasspreker. Hy het 'n baie inspirerende
praatjie aangebied oor die onderwerp The Roads of Research. Prof
Jacques du Plessis is Professor in
studeer by Aberdeen Universiteit waar hy sy PhD verkry het. Sy
belangstellingsvelde is kontraktereg, ongeregverdigde verryking,
sosialiseer. Dié Sosiale Ure is baie gewild by nagraadse studente, want
