RECORD NUMBER OF NEW STUDENTS AT LIBRARY ORIENTATION                                                                          Sien Afrikaans onder

Our goal to improve the attendance of the orientation programme for new students each year, was reached in 2014. This year 3 501 students attended the orientation compared to 2 495 students in 2013. Visits to branch libraries are included in this statistic.

The reason for the increase in attendance could be the result of the following factors:

•  the focus on the academic programme during the first three days of the welcoming programme and the move of "Vensters" to the Friday evening.
•  the mentors received a brochure with the Library orientation programme included and we asked them to motivate first year students to attend the Library visits.

The Library's student assistants helped with the orientation of groups which saved a lot of staff time. Faculty librarians were available at their desks to meet their specific faculty's students. A video made at the 2013 orientation programme was also presented to the groups. The video is available on the How do I do my assignment guide under training. Please click here for the direct link. Students who did not attend the orientation programme can view this video to get an introduction to Library Services in general.

Die video is beskikbaar op die gids How do I do my assignment.
