CONTENT ON THE GO - MOBILE ACCESS TO DATABASES!

                                                                                     Sien Afrikaans onder

The use of library resources on mobile devices is becoming more and more popular in our technologically advanced society. These resources range from electronic databases and books to journals.

The Library and Information Service’s subscription to a vast range of resources makes it possible for our users to connect to many of our electronic resources from their mobile devices (e.g. tablets, smart phones, and portable media players ), anytime, anywhere. Some of the sites, e.g. Ebsco, are designed to auto-detect your device, redirect you to its mobile site and automatically customise it to fit your screen. For some of the databases, e.g. JAMA, SpringerLink and UpToDate, you might have to download the app from iTunes or Google Play. Others will have a separate URL containing the word “mobile” which indicates that it is a mobile site, e.g. Emerald, Taylor & Francis and LexisNexis Academic.

On  the Library’s list of databases, a mobile phone icon with an imbedded URL, indicates which databases are compatible with mobile devices. Should you wish to access any of our databases from your mobile device, you can do so from the
library homepage or you can access these from our mobile site.

Some of our electronic books can also be downloaded to a mobile device to be read at a later stage when the user is offline. EBSCOHost e-books, for example, can be downloaded for a period of up to seven days, after which the book will disappear from your mobile device or your desktop and you will have to check it out again if you still need it.

Biblioteek se tuisblad of mobiele webblad.
