Selected services are provided to prospective postgraduate students to facilitate preliminary research and the writing of research proposals.

Access

All libraries of the Library and Information Service are accessible free of charge to prospective postgraduates subject to positive identification with a valid identification document (photo identification is essential). See Library hours.

Borrowing privileges

A recommendation form, completed and signed by the supervisor of the prospective postgraduate student, must be handed in at the  library.
  • Number of loans: 15 items
  • Borrowing period: 30 days per item
  • Renewals: 2 per item (within maximum renewal period of 90 days) unless someone else has requested it.
    Renew online or ask a staff me​​mber.
    ​    In person, enquire at Client Service at the SU Library or the lending desk of any of the branch libraries.
  • Returns: To Client Service at the SU Library or the lending desk of any of the branch libraries. It is possible to return books by putting them in the drop boxes at the libraries’ entrances.
  • Fines and payments: Only SnapScan and EFT payments are accepted.
    Overdue items: R1.00 per item per day
    Fine limit: R30.00 (borrowing privileges will be suspended when this limit has been exceeded)
    Lost/damaged books: Replacement value payable to the Library and Information Service
  • Reserving books currently on loan: Free and unlimited.
    Reserve online or ask a staff me​​mber. 
    In person, enquire at Client Service at the SU Library or the lending desk of any of the branch libraries.
  • Material available to borrow: All items marked "Loanable"

  • Frequently used items
  • Only available to SU students and staff
  • Number of items: 3
  • Loan period during library hours for use in the library: 3 hours
  • Loan period when library is closed: overnight (out 30 min before closing time; back 30 min after opening)
  • Fines for late items: R10.00 per hour after grace period of 30 min

Electronic resources

Due to licensing agreements, access to some electronic resources is restricted to currently registered students and staff members of Stellenbosch University. See Off-campus e-access.


Off-campus e-access

All electronic resources offered by the Library and Information Service via our library homepage are available from home, office computers, laptops or mobile phones. Use your SU network username and password to sign in. If you do not have your own SU network username and password, see Off-campus e-access.

Off-campus document delivery

Library material can be sent to students not residing on campus and who are prepared to pay for the service. See Off-campus document delivery.

Interlibrary loans

Material not available in any of the libraries of the Library and Information Service may be borrowed from other libraries. See Interlibrary loans.

Internet & wireless access

Prospective postgraduate students may have internet access from their own devices with wireless access.

Internet via the EduRoam world-wide Wi-Fi roaming access service for the international research and education community, are accessible for visiting students, researchers and staff from participating institutions.

Print, copy & scan

Print facilities are limited to Stellenbosch University staff and students registered on the University network. Enquire at Client Service or the lending desk of these libraries.​ See Print, copy & scan.

Uitgesoekte dienste word aan voornemende nagraadse studente gebied om voorlopige navorsing en die skryf van navorsingsvoorstelle te fasiliteer.

Toegang

Alle biblioteke van die Biblioteek- en Inligtingsdiens is toeganklik vir voornemende nagraadse studente. Toegang is gratis en onderworpe aan positiewe identifikasie deur middel van 'n identiteitsdokument (foto-identifikasie is noodsaaklik). Sien Biblioteekure.

Uitleenvoorregte

'n Aanbevelingsvorm moet deur die studieleier van die voornemende nagraadse student voltooi en geteken word en by die biblioteek ingehandig word.
  • Aantal lenings: 15 items
  • Uitleenperiode: 30 dae per item
  • Hernuwings: 2 per item (binne maksimum hernuwingsperiode van 90 dae) behalwe as iemand anders dit bespreek het.
    Hernu aanlyn of vra 'n personeellid.
    In persoon, doen navraag by Kliëntediens in die US Biblioteek of die uitleentoonbank van enige van die takbiblioteke.
  • Terugbesorgings: By Kliëntediens in die US Biblioteek of die uitleentoonbank van enige van die takbiblioteke. Boeke kan terugbesorg word deur dit in die boekposbusse by die biblioteekingange te plaas.
  • Boetes en betaling: Slegs SnapScan en EFT betalings word aanvaar.
    Items vervaldatum verstryk: R1.00 per item per dag
    Boetegrens: R30.00 (Uitleenvoorregte sal opgeskort word wanneer hierdie limiet oorskry is tot op datum wat die boete vereffen is).
    Verlore/beskadigde boeke: Vervangingswaarde betaalbaar aan die Biblioteek- en Inligtingsdiens
  • Bespreek boeke wat uitgeleen is: Gratis en sonder beperking. Bespreek aanlyn of vra 'n personeellid.
    In persoon, doen navraag by Kliëntediens in die US Biblioteek of die uitleentoonbank van enige van die takbiblioteke.
  • Uitleenbare materiaal: Alle items gemerk "Loanable"

Elektroniese bronne

As gevolg van lisensie-ooreenkomste is toegang tot die elektroniese bronne beperk tot studente en personeel wat tans by die Universiteit Stellenbosch geregistreer is. Sien Afkampus- e-toegang.

Afkampus- e-toegang

Al die elektroniese bronne waarop die Biblioteek- en Inligtingsdiens inteken via die biblioteek se tuisblad is ook vanaf huis-, kantoor- en skootrekenaars of selfone toeganklik. Gebruik jou US-netwerkgebruikersnaam en -wagwoord om in te teken. Indien jy nie in besit is van 'n eie US-netwerkgebruikersnaam en -wagwoord nie, sien Afkampus- e-toegang.

Afkampusdokumentlewering

Biblioteekmateriaal kan teen betaling na studente wat nie op kampus is nie, gestuur word. Sien Afkampusdokumentlewering.

Interbiblioteeklenings

Items wat nie in enige van die US-biblioteke beskikbaar is nie, kan van 'n ander biblioteek aangevra word. Sien Interbiblioteeklenings.

Internet & koordlose toegang

Voornemende nagraadse studente mag internet toegang verkry vanaf hul eie toerusting met koordlose toegang.

Internet via die EduRoam wêreldwye koordlose netwerkdienste vir die internasionale navorser en
onderwys gemeenskap, is toeganklik vir besoekende studente, navorsers en personeel van deelnemende instansies.

Druk, kopieer & skandeer

​​Drukfasiliteite is beperk tot personeel en studente van die Universiteit Stellenbosch wat vir die Universiteitsnetwerk geregistreer is. Navrae kan by die Kliëntediens of uitleentoonbank van hierdie biblioteke gedoen word. Sien Druk, ko​​pieer & skandeer.
