ORCID @ Stellenbosch
In 2015 Stellenbosch University became a member of the Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORCID) network. The network is comprised of 16-digit numeric identification numbers which uniquely distinguish authors of scientific research publications from one another (e.g. http://orcid.org/0000-0001-5109-3700). In doing so it ensures that scientific authors are permanently connected to their online research activities throughout the lifetime of their research careers, and thereafter.
ORCID is not just another author identifier. ORCID links for example with Scopus and ResearcherID while connecting institutional, funder, publisher and other researcher identifier systems. Over time ORCID will become a crucial service, easing the workload of researchers and assisting in making research more visible and discoverable. Countries such as the UK and Australia have had national roll-outs of ORCID. The National Research Foundation (NRF) is also preparing for the roll-out of ORCID iDs in their national CV and InfoED projects.
Approximately 900 Stellenbosch University academic staff members, postdoctoral students, masters and doctoral students and other staff members have already connected their ORCID iDs to their SU identity.
Have you created and connected your ORCID iD with your SU identity? If not, please follow this link and/or read the invitation to connect your iD here.
