First Winter Colloquium of WCHELIG
The Western Cape Higher Education Interest Group (WCHELIG) of the national library association, LIASA, held its first Winter Colloquium at the IT Centre of the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (Bellville campus) on 15 June 2005. The topic was Gems from the electronic coal face, which included talks on e-books, e-referencing, weblogs and digitising of library material. It was a great opportunity for librarians from higher education institutions to share and learn about the challenges they face within the rapidly expanding technological environment.
The Colloquium was preceded by a workshop on 14 June with the title, Getting published. The workshop was attended by Annemarie Maritz and Marié Roux and the aim of the workshop was to empower librarians to become sharers of their work through publication. Topics of this highly stimulating workshop included the value of publishing, how to select a topic and how to write and submit a paper. A talk on the presentation of posters at conferences was also part of the programme.
Lucia Schoombee and Marié Roux presented a poster at the Colloquium: Electronic marketing of library services: the Stellenbosch way. Ingrid van der Westhuizen gave a presentation, in collaboration with Delene Pretorius, on E-referencing at Stellenbosch. Annemarie Maritz, Joanne Arendse, Tracy Britz, Naomi Visser and Marita Landsberg also attended the Colloquium.
