Library Service says good bye to Hennie Viljoen
The staff of the Library Service held a farewell function for Hennie Viljoen, who will be retiring on 31 March 2004.
The function, held as a surprise for Hennie, took the form of a "spit braai" at Die Stal. The braai was attended by almost the entire staff of the Library Service and a commemorative album was handed to him as a farewell gift.
Hennie was head of the Library Service for 23 years and it is also during this time that the "new" underground library was built. Besides the leadership roles he fulfilled in the library and information community in South Africa, as head of the US Library Service, president of the South African Institute for Library and Information Science (SAILIS) and many other prominent positions held by him, he also played an important role in the international library and information fraternity.
In the photo (above) Hennie appears with Henri Wirth and Elda Nolte, who compiled the commemorative album, which was presented to him.
The staff of the Library Service all wish Hennie good health, a well-deserved rest and time with his family.
