Studente lewer eweknie bystandsdiens
verantwoordelikhede is:
808 4382 of e-pos: dp2@sun.ac.za
gerig word.

Students
provide peer assistance
This year
the JS Gericke Library has appointed students part-time on an experimental
basis to provide assistance at the general information desk on the upper
level of the library.
The
aim of this is, among others, to offer better service to students who form
the largest group of users of the information desk. The point of view
taken is that there is likely to be greater approachability and
understanding among peers in dealing with information problems.
Nine students form
the team that is currently providing assistance on a rotation basis at the
information desk. In
preparation for their tasks they had to complete an intensive training
programme. Training will also
be continued to keep the team at the forefront of developments in the
library and particularly within the electronic information environment.
The
student team’s main responsibilities are:
- to
answer all general information queries
- to
provide a support service in the use of the computer facilities and the
electronic databases
- to
move around in the computer area at intervals to maintain a level of
visibility for clients who may need assistance at the computers and
printers
Any comments from library
clients on the students’ service performance will be welcomed and can be
directed to Delene Pretorius at tel. 808 4382 or e-mail: dp2@sun.ac.za
