Qualifying institutions

All universities that are members of the Committee of Higher Education Libraries of South Africa (CHELSA). A letter of introduction from the home library and appropriate identification are required.
 

Access

Visitors (such as CHELSA members) do not have walk-in access to the libraries. They may however contact SU Library Client Service, SU Library Special Collections, Music Library, Theology Library, Engineering and Forestry Library, Medicine and Health Sciences Library or Bellville Park Campus Library to make an appointment. Photo identification is essential to sign in at Security.

Visitors who qualify for lending privileges may use the Request a Book for Pickup service.

During the 1st exam period the SU Library is accessible for SU staff, SU students, CHELSA borrowers. Alumni and other visitors with borrowing privileges and an appointment only. Additional identification needed is a barcoded lending card for the current year.

Borrowing privileges

  • Number of loans: 6 items
  • Borrowing period: 14 days per item
  • Renewals: 2 per item (within maximum renewal period of 42 days) unless someone else has requested it. Renew online or ask the staff 
  • Returns: To any of the libraries of the Library and Information Service
  • Fines for overdue items: R1.00 per item per day
  • Fine limit: R30.00 (borrowing privileges will be suspended when this limit has been exceeded)
  • Reserving books currently on loan: Free and unlimited. Reserve online or enquire or ask the staff 
  • Material available to borrow: All item types where POLICY is indicated as “Unrestricted"
  • Lost/damaged books: Replacement value payable to the Library and Information Service

Electronic resources the Library pays for

Due to licensing agreements, off-campus access to the electronic resources the Library pays for is restricted to currently registered students and staff members of Stellenbosch University.

Finding books, articles & other information resources

Visitors may, from their own devices with internet access, do a Library Search on the library homepage. Guidelines are available at Find, access and use information effectively: a step by step guide.See Find information. Visitors will only be able to view the open access content. Internet & wireless access

No internet and wireless access is available to CHELSA members in any of the libraries. Internet and wireless access is limited to Stellenbosch University staff and students registered on the University network.

Short loans

The service is restricted to staff and registered students of Stellenbosch University.

The service is restricted to staff and registered students of Stellenbosch University.

Kwalifiserende instansies

Alle universiteite wat lid is van die Committee of Higher Education Libraries of South Africa (CHELSA). 'n Voorstellingsbrief van die tuisbiblioteek en toepaslike identifikasie word vereis.
 

Toegang

Besoekers (soos CHELSA-lede) het nie instaptoegang tot die biblioteke nie. Hulle mag wel per afspraak die biblioteke persoonlik besoek.  Kontak US Biblioteek Klientediens, US Biblioteek Spesiale Versamelings, Musiekbiblioteek, Teologiebiblioteek, Ingenieurs- & Bosboubiblioteek, Geneeskunde & Gesondheidswetenskappe Biblioteek of Bellvilleparkkampusbiblioteek. Foto-identifikasie is noodsaaklik om in te teken by Sekuriteit.

Besoekers wat kwalifiseer vir uitleenvoorregte kan van die Versoek om 'n boek af te haal diens gebruik maak.

Gedurende die 1ste eksamengeleentheid is die US Biblioteek slegs vir US-personeel, US-studente, Alumni, CHELSA-besoekers en ander besoekers met uitleenvoorregte en 'n afspraak toeganklik. 'n Strepieskode-uitleenkaart vir die huidige jaar word as bykomende identifikasie benodig.

Uitleenvoorregte

  • Aantal lenings: 6 items
  • Uitleenperiode: 14 dae per item
  • Hernuwings: 2 per item (binne maksimum hernuwingsperiode van 42 dae) behalwe as iemand anders dit bespreek het. Hernu aanlyn of doen navraag by 'n personeellid 
  • Terugbesorgings: By enige van die biblioteke van die Biblioteek- en Inligtingsdiens
  • Boetes vir laat items: R1.00 per item per dag
  • Boetegrens: R30.00 (uitleenvoorregte word daarna opgeskort)
  • Bespreek boeke wat uitgeleen is: Gratis en sonder beperking. Bespreek aanlyn of doen navraag by 'n personeellid
  • Uitleenbare materiaal: Alle itemtipes waar POLICY aangedui is as “Unrestricted"
  • Verlore/beskadigde boeke: Vervangingswaarde betaalbaar aan die Biblioteek- en Inligtingsdiens

Elektroniese bronne waarvoor die Biblioteek betaal

As gevolg van lisensie-ooreenkomste is afkampustoegang tot die elektroniese bronne waarvoor die Biblioteek betaal beperk tot studente en personeel wat tans by die Universiteit Stellenbosch geregistreer is.

Elektroniese bronne vryelik toeganklik (oop toegang)

Ooptoegangsbronne Die bronne in hierdie biblioteekgids word beskou as Oop Toegang en is vryelik toeganglik. Dit sluit 'n gedeelte in oor hoe om ooptoegangsbronne in die biblioteekkatalogus op te spoor.

Besoekers kan, vanaf hul eie toestelle met internettoegang, die soekfunksie op die biblioteektuisblad gebruik. Internet & koordlose toegang

Geen internet en koordlose toegang is beskikbaar vir CHELSA-lede binne enige van die biblioteke nie. Internet en koordlose toegang is beperk tot personeel en studente wat by die Universiteit Stellenbosch vir netwerktoegang geregistreer is.

Reserwe

Die diens is beperk tot personeel en geregistreerde studente van die Universiteit Stellenbosch.

Druk, kopieer & skandeer
