Ilse de Lange (Head: Acquistions Division) attended two conferences in the USA. The Timberline Acquisitions Conference took place from 14 until 17 May at Mount Hood in Oregon. From 5 until 8 June she attended the North American Aleph User Group Conference in College Park, Maryland. Ilse also visited two major book distributors while she was in the USA, i.e. Blackwell's Book Services in Portland, Oregon and Ambassador Book Service in New York.
The annual conference and workshop of the South African Preservation and Conservation Group (SAPCON) was held from 14-16 July in East London at the Blue Lagoon Hotel and Conference Centre. Mimi van der Merwe (Special Collections) attended this event. The theme of the workshop was "The art of digital imaging" and the theme of the conference, "Addressing preservation challenges in South Africa".
Marié Roux (Planning and Marketing) attended a course at the Language Centre of the University of Stellenbosch: "Winning Web Texts and Web Sites", from 6 - 9 June. The course was split into two parts. The first, "Designing and writing web texts", was presented by Leon de Stadler and the second part, "Designing and developing web sites", by Lise-Marié Greeff.
Johan Mouton (Electronic Resources Manager) attended the SA Online Meeting, which takes place every second year. The meeting was preceded by a workshop on 21 June and the conference itself was from 22 until 23 June. This year it was held at the CSIR Conference Centre in Pretoria.
