Open data and research data management

Presenter: Mr. Samuel Simango, Manager: Research Data Services

Time: 09h00 - 10h00

Research data management is a concept that generally invokes associations with open science, open access and open data. Although all of these concepts are indeed related in some way, they cannot be equated with one another, as this would amount to false equivalence. This session aims to clarify the relationship between Open Data and Research Data Management by focusing on the following aspects:
  • Framing Open Data and Research Data Management within the context of Open Science.
  • The quality-management aspects of Research Data Management.
  • The relationship between Research Data Management and the FAIR Data Principles.
  • How we go from Research Data Management to Open Data.
  • Tools for ensuring that Open Data comply with the FAIR Data Principles (this segment will include short practical demonstrations of resources such as Data Stewardship Wizard, SUNScholarData, F-UJI Automated FAIR Data Assessment Tool and the FAIR Evaluator).
