This year's International Open Access Week is focusing on climate change and climate justice. The drastic changes in climate across the globe has far-reaching effects. These effects can strike any country as was seen in April 2022, in KwaZulu-Natal and Eastern Cape, with KwaZulu-Natal being declared a national state of disaster.

Such tragedies can lay waste to a community, damaging and destroying critical infrastructures, such as major highways, transportation, communication, electrical systems, health systems etc., making recovery and relief efforts all most impossible.

The theme for this year, therefore, is Open for Climate Justice.

This year's theme is about coordinating across communities and a chance to join together, to take action, and to raise awareness around how openness as default, can be an enabler of climate justice.
