Academic mentoring: What is it and does it work?
Presenter: Prof. Jimmy Volmink, Dean, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences
Time: 16:00 – 17:00
This talk will begin by briefly describing the different types of mentorship. It will then focus attention on academic mentoring, explaining what it is, how it works, and why it is important. Barriers to mentorship, and how to overcome them will also be considered. The content of my talk is informed by personal experience, as both a mentee and mentor, over the course of a career spanning four decades, as well as evidence from the academic literature.
The link to the event will be sent out on Friday, 14 May 2021.
