​​​​​Guided by the University's pursuit of research excellence and relevance, the Library and Information Service provides a variety of services to support postgraduate students, academic staff, researchers and postdoctoral students at each stage of the research lifecycle. Some focus areas ensure access to the best possible academic sources, facilitating scholarly communication and promoting research output. 

Services

We strive to provide spaces conducive​ to research and efficient service delivery by experienced staff. The Carnegie Research Commons brings together people, technology, and information resources to enhance research activity. Individual workspaces, discussion areas and a comfortable area are provided for relaxation and networking.

You will find information about bibliometrics, citation analysis, unique author identification (ORCID) and assistance with increasing your visibility as a researcher under the link Research Impact. Under Research Data Management you will find some guidelines about how to plan and manage your research data as well as where to deposit it. The page Bibliographic reference management gives you more information about how to manage your references with tools such as Mendeley. You will also find links to information about referencing in general.

Open Access benefits researchers by providing inexpensive access to scholarly material, and authors by providing global exposure and more opportunity to be cited. The University's Open Acces endeavours are all listed under this link, such as our institutional repository (SUNScholar), SUNJournals, SUNConferences, the Open Access Publication Fund and Self-archiving.

In ooreenstemming met die Universiteit se strewe na navorsing van uitnemendheid en tersaaklikheid, lewer die Biblioteek- en Inligtingsdiens steundienste aan nagraadse studente, akademiese personeel, navorsers en postdoktorale studente, in elke fase van die navorsingsiklus. Sommige fokusareas word daarop toegespits om die beste akademiese hulpbronne moontlik beskikbaar te stel, steun te bied vir wetenskaplike kommunikasie en om die navorsingsuitset aan te moedig.
Onder die skakel Navorsingsimpak word inligting gevind oor bibliometriese instrumente en hulpmiddels, sitaatanalise, unieke outeursidentifisering (ORCID) en hulp met die verbetering van jou sigbaarheid as 'n navorser. Die skakle na Navorsingsdata-bestuur sal jou neem na riglyne oor hoe om jou navorsingsdata te beplan en te bestuur, sowel as waar om dit te bewaar. Die bladsy oor Bibliografiese verwysingsbestuur bied meer inligting oor hoe om jou verwysings te bestuur met hulpbronne soos Mendeley. Hier is ook skakels na meer inligting oor die gebruik van verwysings in die algemeen.
Oop Toegang bevoordeel navorsers deur goedkoop toegang tot vakkundige materiaal te verleen, terwyl outeurs deur wêreldwye blootstelling meer geleentheid kry om aangehaal te word. Die Universiteit se initiatiewe rakende Oop Toegang is almal hier gelys, byvoorbeeld ons institutionele bewaarplek (SUNScholar), SUNJournals, SUNConferences, die Ooptoegangspublikasiefonds en Selfargivering.

Twee ander belangrike dienste, Spesiale Versamelings en Digitale Versamelings, stel beide waardevolle, unieke materiaal beskikbaar vir navorsers, insluitend manuskripte, kaarte, seldsame boeke, argitektoniese tekeninge en ander vorme van materiaal.

'n Opleidingsprogram gerig op nagraadse studente en navorsers word deur die jaar aangebied om jou te help om die Biblioteek se inligtingsbronne en opspoorinstrumente optimaal te benut en navorsingsproduktiwiteit te verhoog. Die aanlynkalender op die Biblioteek se tuisblad vergemaklik besprekings.
