Value and types of systematic reviews

The Centre for Evidence-based Health Care (CEBHC) within the Division of Epidemiology and Biostatistics (Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, SU) are presenting three webinars to explain the value of using *systematic reviews in decision-making, explain how systematic reviews questions are phrased, how to search for systematic reviews, and the approach to reading systematic reviews.

During session 1 the focus will be on the different types of healthcare questions as well as examples of PICO formulation for quantitative and qualitative research.

Accessing systematic reviews

During session 2 the focus will be on Searching for systematic reviews in Medline PubMed and the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews. Other databases that will be briefly referred to include the TRIP database, Epistemonikos, EBSCOhost Academic Search premier, CINAHL, Africa-Wide Information.

Approach to reading systematic reviews

During session 3 the focus will be on navigating through the question and methods, interpreting the results, and considering the applicability of the findings for decision-making.
