The University’s commitment to community service is supported through service delivery to school learners providing this does not conflict with the primary responsibility to the students, lecturers and other staff of the University. Therefore, it is necessary to structure the use of the Library Service’s resources and facilities by learners. The goal of this structured service to learners is to introduce future students to a major academic library while they are still at school and thereby to promote information literacy.

Access

Learners accompanied by their parents or an adult may visit the library free of charge during library hours. Only the parent or adult needs positive identification to sign the visitor’s book at the Stellenbosch University Library.
 
In other instances the following apply:
  • No Grade 1-5 school learners are allowed in the Library.
  • Grade 6-12 school learners are allowed in groups and ONLY under teacher supervision, provided that a prior appointment has been made.
  • Only Grade 11-12 school learners are allowed to visit the Library individually, provided that the learner has made an appointment with the contact person at the Stellenbosch University Library or the Head of the branch library.

Visiting times 

Monday to Friday: 08:00-16:30 only

VERY IMPORTANT: No school learners will be allowed in the Library as from four weeks before the beginning of the semester exams (May/June and October/November) until the end of the semester exams.

Services

Guided tours/educational visits (Grade 6-12 only)

School group visits should be scheduled at least 2 weeks in advance with the relevant contact person at the Stellenbosch University Library or the Head of the branch library.

Group visits for assignments (Grade 11 & 12 only)

For subjects for which public and school libraries do not have sufficient resources, teachers are welcome to submit a written or e-mail application to the contact person at the Stellenbosch University Library or the Head of the branch library at least 2 weeks in advance, requesting a group visit by Grade 11 and 12 learners with an assignment.

Individual visits for assignments (Grade 11 & 12 only)

For subjects for which the public and school libraries do not have sufficient resources, and for which the teacher has not arranged a group visit, individual learners may personally submit a request for assistance to the contact person at the Stellenbosch University Library or the Head of the branch library. 

Print, copy & scan

Cash facilities are provided by Maties Copy & Print in the Stellenbosch University Library or at the lending desks of the branch libraries. See Print, copy & scan for fees.
Bladsy Inhoud
Die Universiteit se verbintenis tot gemeenskapsdiens word ondersteun deur dienslewering aan skoolleerders, maar nie ten koste van sy primêre verantwoordelikheid aan die studente, dosente en ander personeel van die Universiteit nie. Daarom is dit nodig om die gebruik van die Biblioteek- en Inligtingsdiens se bronne en fasiliteite deur skoolleerders te struktureer. Die doel met die strukturering is om toekomstige studente reeds op skoolvlak aan ’n groot akademiese biblioteek bekend te stel en inligtingsgeletterdheid daardeur te bevorder. 

Toegang

Skoolleerders wat deur hul ouers of ‘n volwasse persoon vergesel word, mag die biblioteek gratis besoek gedurende ure wat die biblioteke oop is. Slegs die ouer of volwasse persoon benodig positiewe identifikasie om die toegangsregister by die Universiteit Stellenbosch Biblioteek te voltooi. 

Vir ander gevalle geld die volgende:
  • Geen Graad 1-5 skoolleerders mag die biblioteek besoek nie.
  • Graad 6-12 skoolleerders mag in groepe, onder toesig van ‘n onderwyser, die biblioteek besoek, mits die onderwyser vooraf ‘n afspraak met die kontakpersoon vir dienslewering aan skoolleerders gemaak het.
  • Slegs Graad 11-12 skoolleerders mag die biblioteek individueel besoek, mits die skoolleerders vooraf  ‘n afspraak met die kontakpersoon by die Universiteit Stellenbosch Biblioteek of die Hoof van die takbiblioteek gemaak het.

Tye wanneer skoolleerders die biblioteek mag besoek

Maandag tot Vrydag: slegs 08:00-16:30

BAIE BELANGRIK:  Geen skoolleerders word in die biblioteek toegelaat vanaf vier weke voor die semestereksamens (Mei/Junie en Oktober/November)  begin tot aan die einde van die semestereksamens nie.

Dienste

Besigtigingstoere/opvoedkundige uitstappies (Slegs Grade 6-12)

Besoeke deur skoolgroepe moet 2 weke vooraf met die kontakpersoon by die Universiteit Stellenbosch Biblioteek of met die Hoof van die takbiblioteek gerëel word.

Groepsbesoek vir 'n taak/opdrag (Slegs Grade 11 & 12)

Vir onderwerpe waarvoor die openbare en skoolbiblioteke nie oor genoegsame bronne beskik nie, is onderwysers welkom om ten minste 2 weke vooraf e-pos of skriftelike versoeke by die kontakpersoon by die Universiteit Stellenbosch Biblioteek of by die Hoof van die takbiblioteek in te dien vir ’n groepsbesoek deur Graad 11 en 12 skoolleerders met ’n taak/opdrag.

Individuele besoeke vir 'n taak/opdrag (Slegs Grade 11 & 12)

Vir onderwerpe waarvoor die openbare en skoolbiblioteke nie oor genoegsame bronne beskik nie, en waarvoor die onderwyser nie ’n groepsbesoek gereël het nie, kan individuele skoolleerders persoonlik ’n versoek vir hulp aan die betrokke kontakpersoon by die Universiteit Stellenbosch Biblioteek of aan die Hoof van die takbiblioteek rig.

Kontantfasiliteite is by Maties Copy & Print in die Universiteit Stellenbosch Biblioteek en by die uitleenafdelings van takbiblioteke beskikbaar. Sien Druk, kopieer & skandeer vir die tariewe.
