The Stellenbosch University's commitment to community service is supported by its service to tertiary institutions situated in and around Stellenbosch providing this does not conflict with the primary responsibility to the students, lecturers and other staff of the University.
Membership
All students of the particular institution must join. For staff it is optional. Staff who do not join will be regarded as
visitors.
Application & fees

Annual fee: R825.00 for 2017 Payment and period
On receipt of a completed application form and approval of the application the tersiary institution will receive an invoice with complete payment details.
Membership is valid from January to December of a specific year. No pro rata membership payment is allowed.
Client data spreadsheet
A client data spreadsheet with the full particulars of all students have to be supplied to the
contact person. Staff also becoming institutional members should be included.
These particulars will be used to create lending records for all staff and students.
Membership privileges
Basic group orientation and training in the use of the library, its information sources and facilities as pre-arranged with the
contact person.
Access
Free of charge but subject to positive identification with
the tertiary institutions' identification document (photo identification
essential) and by completing the admissions register at access control in the Stellenbosch University Library. See library
hours.
Lending privileges
- Number of loans: 3 items
- Borrowing period: 14 days per item
- Renewals: None
- Returns: To any of the libraries of the Library and Information Service
- Fines for overdue items: 50c per item per day
- Fine limit: R50-00 (lending privileges will be suspended when this limit is exceeded)
- Reserving books currently on loan: Free and unlimited
- Material available to borrow: All item types except where POLICY is indicated as “Not loanable"
- Lost/ damaged items: Replacement value payable to the Library and Information Service
Services
Electronic resources
Free self-help access is available to walk-in users only, in any of the libraries. Due to licensing agreements, access to some electronic resources is restricted to currently registered students and staff members of Stellenbosch University.
Information services
Only basic information services are provided. These include assistance to become self-sufficient in finding sources and information, in either printed or electronic format. In the Stellenbosch University Library, please ask your contact person or ask at the general information desks and at the branch libraries please ask any staff member.

No internet and wireless access available in the library. Internet and wireless access are limited to Stellenbosch University staff and students registered on the University network.
Print, Copy and Scan
Cash facilities are provided by Maties Copy & Print in the Stellenbosch University Library or at the lending desks of the branch libraries. See
