The Stellenbosch University's commitment to community service is supported by its service to tertiary institutions situated in and around Stellenbosch providing this does not conflict with the primary responsibility to the students, lecturers and other staff of the University.
 

Membership

All students of the particular institution must join.  For staff it is optional. Staff who do not join will be regarded as visitors.

Application & fees

Please request the contact person to e-mail the policy and the application form to you.
Annual fee: R825.00 for 2017
 

Payment and period

On receipt of a completed application form and approval of the application the tersiary institution will receive an invoice with complete payment details.
Membership is valid from January to December of a specific year. No pro rata membership payment is allowed.

Client data spreadsheet

A client data spreadsheet with the full particulars of all students have to be supplied to the contact person.  Staff also becoming institutional members should be included.
These particulars will be used to create lending records for all staff and students.


Membership privileges

Basic group orientation and training in the use of the library, its information sources and facilities as pre-arranged with the contact person.


Access

Free of charge but subject to positive identification with the tertiary institutions' identification document (photo identification essential) and by completing the admissions register at access control in the Stellenbosch University Library. See library hours.


Lending privileges

  • Number of loans: 3 items
  • Borrowing period: 14 days per item
  • Renewals: None
  • Returns: To any of the libraries of the Library and Information Service
  • Fines for overdue items: 50c per item per day
  • Fine limit: R50-00 (lending privileges will be suspended when this limit is exceeded)
  • Reserving books currently on loan: Free and unlimited
  • Material available to borrow: All item types except where POLICY is indicated as “Not loanable"
  • Lost/ damaged items: Replacement value payable to the Library and Information Service
 

Services

Electronic resources

Free self-help access is available to walk-in users only, in any of the libraries. Due to licensing agreements, access to some electronic resources is restricted to currently registered students and staff members of Stellenbosch University.

Information services

Only basic information services are provided. These include assistance to become self-sufficient in finding sources and information, in either printed or electronic format. In the Stellenbosch University Library, please ask your contact person or ask at the general information desks and at the branch libraries please ask any staff member.
An online information service, Ask a Librarian, is available.

Finding books, articles and other information resources

Visit our library homepage and type your search terms in the search box or choose E-Databases or E-Journals from the FIND menu. Guidelines are available at Find, access and use information effectively: a step by step guide. See Find information.

Internet and wireless access

No internet and wireless access available in the library. Internet and wireless access are limited to Stellenbosch University staff and students registered on the University network.
 

Print, Copy and Scan

Cash facilities are provided by Maties Copy & Print in the Stellenbosch University Library or at the lending desks of the branch libraries. See Print, copy & scan for fees.

Room bookings

The Auditorium and seminar rooms in the Stellenbosch University Library are available to members of the public at a fee. See Room bookings.

Die Universiteit Stellenbosch se verbintenis tot gemeenskapsdiens word ondersteun deur dienslewering aan tersiêre instansies in en om Stellenbosch, maar nie ten koste van sy primêre verantwoordelikheid aan studente, dosente en ander personeel van die Universiteit nie.

Lidmaatskap

Alle studente van 'n betrokke instansie moet aansluit. Vir personeel is dit opsioneel. Personeel wat nie aansluit nie word as besoekers beskou.

Aansoek om lidmaatskap & fooie

Versoek asseblief die kontakpersoon om die beleid en die aansoekvorm vir u aan te stuur.
Jaarlikse fooi: R825.00 vir 2017

Betaling en periode

Na ontvangs van 'n voltooide aansoekvorm en die goedkeuring van die aansoek sal die instansie 'n rekening met volledige betalingsbesonderhede ontvang.
Lidmaatskap is vanaf Januarie tot Desember van 'n bepaalde jaar geldig.  Geen pro rata lidmaatskapbetalings is dus moontlik nie.

Kliëntedata sigblad

'n Kliëntedata sigblad met die volledige besonderhede van al die studente moet aan die kontakpersoon verskaf word. Personeel wat ook institusionele lede word moet ingesluit word. Hierdie besonderhede word gebruik om uitleenrekords vir al die studente en personeel te skep.


Lidmaatskapvoorregte

Basiese groepsoriëntering en –opleiding in die gebruik van die biblioteek, die fasiliteite en bronne soos voorafgereël met die kontakpersoon.

Toegang

Gratis, maar onderworpe aan positiewe identifikasie d.m.v. 'n geldige personeel-/studentekaart (met 'n foto) van die tuisinstansie en voltooiing van die toegangsregister by die toegangsbeheerpunt van die Universiteit Stellenbosch Biblioteek. Sien Biblioteekure.


Uitleenvoorregte

  • Aantal lenings: 3 items
  • Uitleenperiode: 14 dae per item
  • Hernuwings: Geen
  • Terugbesorging: By enige van die biblioteke van die Biblioteek en Inligtingsdiens
  • Boetes vir laat items: 50c per item per dag
  • Boetegrens: R50-00 (uitleenvoorregte word daarna opgeskort).
  • Bespreek boeke wat uitgeleen is: Gratis en sonder beperking
  • Uitneembare materiaal: Alle itemtipes behalwe waar POLICY aangedui is as “Not loanable".
  • Verlore/beskadigde boeke: Vervangingswaarde betaalbaar aan die Biblioteek- en Inligtingsdiens.

Dienste

Elektroniese bronne

Gratis self-help toegang is beskikbaar binne enige van die biblioteke, slegs aan instapgebruikers. As gevolg van lisensie-ooreenkomste, is toegang tot sommige elektroniese bronne beperk tot studente en personeel wat tans by die Universiteit Stellenbosch geregistreer is.

Inligtingsdiens

Basiese inligtingsdienste word verskaf. Dit behels hulp om bronne en inligting, hetsy in papier of elektroniese formaat, self op te spoor. Doen asseblief in die Universiteit Stellenbosch Biblioteek navraag by die kontakpersoon of die algemene inligtingsdienspunte en in die takbiblioteke by enige personeellid. 'n Elektroniese inligtingsdiens Vra ons "Ask a Librarian" is beskikbaar.

Vind boeke, artikels en ander inligtingsbronne

Besoek die biblioteek se tuisblad en tik jou soekterme in die soekboks of kies E-Databasisse of E-Tydskrifte vanuit die VIND spyskaart.

As gevolg van lisensie-ooreenkomste, is toegang tot sommige elektroniese bronne beperk tot studente en personeel wat tans by die Universiteit Stellenbosch geregistreer is.


Internet en koordlose toegang

Geen internet en koordlose toegang beskikbaar binne die biblioteek.  Internet en koordlose toegang is beperk tot personeel en studente wat by die Universiteit Stellenbosch vir netwerktoegang geregistreer is.

Druk, kopieer & skandeer

Kontant fasiliteite word verskaf deur Maties Copy & Print in die Universiteit Stellenbosch Biblioteek of by die uitleentoonbank van die takbiblioteke. Tariewe is beskikbaar by Druk, kopieer & skandeer.

Lokaalbesprekings

Die Ouditorium en seminaarkamers in die Universiteit Stellenbosch Biblioteek is beskikbaar vir lede van die publiek, teen 'n tarief. Sien Lokaalbesprekings.
