If a book you need is not available at any of the libraries of the SU Library and Information Service, you may request this from another library in South Africa or abroad by way of interlibrary loans.

What can I request?

  • Books, theses or book chapters
  • Journal articles

Submit an Interlibrary request

  1. Instructions on how to find articles is available in the Find, access and use information guide; OR contact your faculty librarian if you need assistance with determining the availability of items at the SU libraries before you submit an interlibrary loan request.
  2. Complete and submit the interlibrary request e-form.
  3. SU clients in Stellenbosch requiring articles - not available in electronic format - from branch libraries situated in Stellenbosch, have to go to that particular branch library to obtain it.

  4. SU clients requiring articles - not available in electronic format - located at a SU campus (Stellenbosch, Tygerberg and Bellville Park) other than the one they are located at, may request the articles from their campus library.

Information for other libraries

Items available for interlibrary loan

  • Photocopies of journal articles, conference papers and chapters of books.
  • Books may be requested by South African libraries (we do not lend books to international libraries).
  • The SUNScholar URL of SU Master's and Doctoral theses will be supplied free of charge to requesting libraries, both national & international.
  • We do not lend audio-visual material to requesting libraries.

Document delivery method
  • Article Exchange, a software tool, will be applied as the standard electronic means for delivery of articles.
  • Fax or mail delivery is acceptable in cases where the requesting or supplying library does not have the necessary facilities to receive or transmit articles electronically.
  • Books will be posted by mail or can be collected by the requesting library.

Loan & renewal periods

  • The loan period of a book is 8 weeks.
  • No renewal is possible.
  • Requesting libraries will be blacklisted if they do not respond to recall notices or invoices.
  • The requesting library is responsible for the replacement of a lost or damaged book.

Tariffs
  • Unless libraries have a reciprocal free of charge agreement, fees as determined by the National Library of  South Africa (NLSA) will be charged for interlibrary loan documents.
  • Photocopies exceeding the normal standard will be charged for, according to the NLSA price structure.
  • The tariffs for documents to be sent by fax, as determined by the NLSA, will be applicable unless libraries have a reciprocal agreement.
  • National coupons are acceptable for payment by non-online libraries.
  • The rate for journal articles or book chapters for international requesters is $20.00.
  • IFLA vouchers and IFM are accepted.

Indien 'n boek nie by een van die biblioteke van die US Biblioteek- en Inligtingsdiens beskikbaar is nie, kan dit deur middel van interbiblioteeklenings van ander biblioteke in Suid-Afrika of oorsee aangevra word.

Versoek 'n Interbiblioteeklening

  1. Kry aanwysings oor hoe om artikels te vind in die Vind, kry toegang en gebruik inligtingsgidse; OF vra jou fakulteitsbibliotekaris vir hulp om die beskikbaarheid van items by die US-biblioteke na te gaan, voordat jy 'n interbiblioteeklening aanvra.
  2. Voltooi en stuur die interbiblioteekaanvraag e-vorm.
  3. US-kliënte op Stellenbosch wat artikels - wat nie elektronies beskikbaar is nie - vanaf een van die takbiblioteke op Stellenbosch benodig, moet self na die betrokke biblioteek gaan om dit te kry.
  4. US-kliënte wat artikels - wat nie elektronies beskikbaar is nie - vanaf 'n biblioteek op 'n ander kampus (Stellenbosch, Tygerberg of Bellvillepark) as waar die kliënt is benodig, mag die artikels van hul kampusbiblioteek aanvra.

Inligting vir ander biblioteke

Items beskikbaar vir interbiblioteeklenings
  • Fotokopieë van tydskrifartikels, konferensie-dokumente en hoofstukke uit boeke.
  • Boeke mag deur Suid-Afrikaanse biblioteke aangevra word (ons leen nie boeke aan internasionale biblioteke nie).
  • Die SUNScholar URL van US-meesters en doktorale tesisse sal gratis aan aanvraagbiblioteke, beide nasionaal en internasionaal, verskaf word.
  • Ons leen geen oudiovisuele items aan biblioteke nie.

Dokumentleweringsmetode
  • Article Exhange (‘n sagtewareprogram) is die standaard elektroniese leweringsmetode vir artikels.
  • Faks- of posaflewering is aanvaarbaar in gevalle waar biblioteke nie die nodige geriewe het om artikels elektronies te stuur of te ontvang nie.
  • Boeke word per pos gestuur of kan deur die aanvraagbiblioteek afgehaal word.

Uitleen- & hernuwingstydperk
  • Die leentydperk van ‘n boek is 8 weke.
  • Geen hernuwing word toegestaan nie.
  • Biblioteke sal op ‘n swartlys geplaas word indien hulle nie ag slaan op herroepkennisgewings of rekeninge nie.
  • Die aanvraagbiblioteek is vir die vervanging van ‘n verlore of beskadigde boek verantwoordelik.

Tariewe
  • Tensy biblioteke ‘n wedersydse geen-tarief-ooreenkoms het, sal fooie soos vasgestel deur die Suid-Afrikaanse Nasionale Biblioteek (SANB) vir interleningsdokumente gehef word.
  • Betaling, volgens die SANB se prysstruktuur, sal op fotokopieë wat die normale standaard oorskry, gehef word.
  • Tensy biblioteke ‘n wedersydse ooreenkoms het, sal tariewe vir dokumente wat per faks gestuur word gehef word soos bepaal deur die SANB.
  • Biblioteke wat nie aanlyn is nie, mag nasionale koeponne as betaling gebruik.
  • Die tarief vir tydskrifartikels of hoofstukke uit boeke vir internasionale versoeke is $20.00.
  • IFLA-bewyse en IFM word aanvaar.
