Stellenbosch University Library- and Information Service primarily provides an academic support service to students, lecturers and other staff of the University. The commitment of the University to community service is supported by allowing access to alumni with research needs to use the various collections, providing this does not conflict with its primary responsibility to the students, lecturers and staff of the University.
 
Membership and lending privileges may however be obtained at an annual fee. Alumni residing within a 150 km radius from  Bellville Park Campus may obtain lending privileges by registering as paying secondary clients at the lending desk of USBI.

Access

Access to the library is allowed, subject to positive identification with a valid identity document.  Photo identification is essential.

Membership

Special membership fee: R300.00 per annum.

The particulars of individuals who which to obtain alumni membership will be verified on the SU alumni database.

Lending privileges  ​

• Loans: 3 items
• Loan period: 2 weeks per item
• Two renewals per item, unless already reserved by another client.
  

Library orientation

No formal library orientation of, or training in the use of library resources are provided.  Please ask any library staff member for assistance.

Library catalogue

Access to the library catalogue on campus and from elsewhere by way of the internet.

Electronic journals

Access to electronic journals for walk-in users only.

Other services and facilities

• No printing and internet facilities are available to alumni. Bring a flash disk to download articles from the library databases, or e-mail information to yourself.
  
  
• Pay cash for photocopies: 50c per page.
  
  
• No interlibrary loan service.
