Access & membership

The library is accessible to physically disabled persons, e.g. those who need to use a wheelchair. Please phone the library at 021 938 9368 to arrange for access prior to the visit.  

SU staff and registered students

All staff and registered students of Stellenbosch University are automatically members of all libraries of the SU Library and Information Service. Access to the Medicine & Health Sciences Library is by means of a SU staff or student card. 

Off-campus access, as well as access from elsewhere on campus, are available for SU staff and students
to the library and the electronic library resources. Clients should visit the library online by signing on with
their SU campus username and password.
 

Other members 

The following persons may also obtain membership and lending privileges at the Medicine & Health Sciences Library:  

Staff members of the Provincial Administration of the Western Cape (PAWC), affiliated
with the Tygerberg and Stikland hospitals, including radiologists, dieticians, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, general practitioners and nursing staff; staff of the Western Province Nursing College; staff of Louis Leipoldt and Karl Bremer hospitals. 

  • Arrange for an access card to the library at the Cards Section, Administration
    (1st Floor, Clinical Building), Tygerberg campus, during office hours.

  • After receiving your access card, visit the information desk in the library foyer to register as a member.

  • Lending privileges: 15 items for 4 weeks. Two renewals are allowed, unless reserved by another client.

Ukwanda Clinical Outreach  

Designated professional health care staff members assisting students of the Faculty of Health Sciences
working in communities which form part of Ukwanda Clinical Outreach. Contact us to make arrangements for membership.  

Emergency Medical College  

  • Arrange for an access card to the library at the Cards Section, Administration
    (1st Floor, Clinical Building), Tygerberg campus, during office hours.

  • After receiving your access card, visit the information desk in the library foyer to register as a member.

  • Lending privileges: 3 books for 2 weeks. Two renewals are allowed, unless reserved by another client.

Elective students

  • Lending privileges: 6 items for 4 weeks; CDs and DVDs: overnight; printed journals from 2000: 3 day

Alumni 

The library, as well as specified library services, are accessible to alumni of Stellenbosch University at a
special membership fee.

Visitors 

Only adults may:

  • visit the library for research purposes;

  • use the library's computers and printing facilities;
